What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness. The conscious mind (which is where we do our rational thinking can obstruct access to the unconscious mind. The purpose of hypnosis is to persuade the conscious mind to step aside for a while and so allow access to the subconscious mind (our imaginative mind).
There are many similar states of hypnosis that occur in everyday life, e.g. just before going to sleep and while in the process of waking up, when daydreaming, if entranced by a film or book or when driving, may all be occasions when consciousness is more narrowly focused.
Will I lose control during hypnotherapy?
No.
You remain relaxed and in control throughout. You will remain aware of what is going on around you and what is being said. You are always in charge; the therapist only facilitates this process. During hypnotherapy, you will not be made to do anything you do not want to do. Hypnotherapy differs from stage hypnotism in that hypnotherapy empowers the client and the client’s best interests are at heart. It’s a feeling of relaxed focus, a bit like daydreaming.
Can anybody be hypnotised ?
Yes, anyone can be hypnotised as long as they want to be and have an ability to concentrate. So it is not appropriate for very young children or people with certain mental disabilities. A hypnotherapist can not force you to go into hypnosis against your will. Clients usually find a hypnotic trance is very relaxing, even euphoric and they feel very good afterwards.
How many sessions will I need ?
On average Diane see’s people 3-4 times, but sometimes more or less sessions are required. To stop smoking no more than two sessions or one double session are usually required. For anything else, that depends on your motivation and desire to change. However, hypnotherapy is an effective therapy and the hypnotherapist will want to help you in the minimum number of sessions possible. You and the hypnotherapist will review your progress so that at any time you can make a valued judgement about how the therapy is progressing.
How often will I need to see the hypnotherapist ?
This depends on the type of problem and on the progress made. The hypnotherapist will usually see you once a week. However some clients see the hypnotherapist once a fortnight or even once a month depending on their circumstances. Each session includes a free personalised hypnotherapy recording for you to practise with.
What is the difference between Hypnosis and hypnotherapy?
A hypnotherapy session is intended to be therapeutic and beneficial to the client. It is a process of therapy that uses hypnosis. The therapist works with you to change your thoughtss, beliefs, behaviour in a positive way or to reduce physical symptoms.
Does hypnotherapy work?
Yes, hypnotherapy can be amazingly powerful at helping people to make the changes they want to make in their lives. However it is not a miracle cure, it still requires work and commitment on your part. I don’t snap my fingers and ‘cure’ you. It is a partnership where myself and the client work together to overcome an issue
