Hypnosis is an incredibly effective way of reducing pain and even removing pain responses. Some of the most incredible things I have ever witnessed in hypnotherapy are where it has been used for pain control. I have seen a lady have her front teeth removed and dental in-plants fitted without anaesthesia. I have seen a gentleman who was terrified of anaesthesia undergo his hernia operation under hypnosis. Also Hypno-Birthing empowers women by giving them skills that will enable them to have a calmer and more comfortable birth.
On a personal level pain is what first attracted me to hypnotherapy. I was suffering from agonising pain due to an auto-immune condition. I felt like I had electric shocks raging through my hands, my knees were on fire and I felt like someone was driving a corkscrew into my foot. Pain medication was doing nothing for me. Then I discovered hypnosis and a dissociation technique that enabled me to manage the pain and also take back control of my life. From that moment on, I became fascinated by the world of Hypnosis and ultimately retrained as a Clinical Hypnotherapist, so that I could help others.
Before I talk about how it could work for you, I want to first remind you that pain is something that needs attention. It must be taken seriously and investigated by a medical practitioner.
There are two categories of pain. Acute pain is our body's way of telling us we are being damaged and we need to take action, without this kind of pain, our very survival would be threatened. It's when pain becomes chronic that it serves no useful purpose. We already know there is a problem and there is nothing more to learn from the constant signals. We now need a way to manage it. Sometimes medication only provides a temporary relief, sometimes powerful medication can cause it's own damage.
This is where hypnosis can offer a practical solution, help you to feel more comfortable and regain control of your life. There are a number of hypnotic approaches to pain management, everyone is unique and it is a matter of finding the right solution for you. I work together with my clients to find the right technique then teach them to use the technique for themselves with self-hypnosis. This is very empowering and allows them to take back control of the lives.
